In late December 2020, I made the trip home to rural NSW, Australia. Prior to leaving for my trip, I decided that my return journey would consist of a stop off past two of my favourite locations – Beechworth (Beechworth Trip Guide here) and Morgan’s Lookout. These spots have always had a special place in my heart. BUT the hidden gem of Morgans Lookout is what I want to share with you today.
Morgan’s Lookout is not as popular as most travel destinations. Its hidden away in the small country town of Walla Walla. Unless you are looking for places to visit in this area, you most likely wouldn’t have heard of it. Its a magical destination. These huge granite rocks leave you feeling like you have stumbled across an old game of marbles, played by the giants. It will leave you in awe of the power of nature. Here are some ideas of how you could spend your day here and enjoy the beauty yourself!
- Have a picnic. Sitting next to these giant rocks, is an empowering experience. They make you remember how tiny you are in the grand scheme of things. Take in the magic of it by setting up a picnic and enjoy some lunch or morning tea.
- Climb to the top. Challenge yourself by climbing the stairs to the top of the largest formation. You will feel so powerful standing here and realise just how large and strong these giant rocks truly are.
- Take in the view. The largest formation will provide you with a 360 degree view of the flattened landscape. Spend some time with yourself to really soak this in and play around with seeing just how far the eye can see.
- Explore your surroundings. There are tunnels and mazes to be found here – Although the view from the top is beautiful, make sure you spend some time to explore the base of the area – see if you can find some tunnels to climb through.
